Kyerema Heritage Treasures gallery page will feature my collection of handmade dolls. The collection is the result of my love for art and culture that is reflected in my sewing projects. A lot of my ideas derive from objects or subjects that inspire me during a tour of a museum exhibition or a story I’ve read. It doesn’t take much!
Currently, I am using cloth and wire for the construction of the dolls' body. The faces are authentic African passport masks fitted to a cloth head. I am also experimenting with polymer clay, and hand stitched and molded faces. My subjects are not the result of skilled artistry because I have had no training in art beyond high school. Therefore, everything I do starts with my imagination and ends up with a pile of scrap material, a mess, and a conversation piece.
